In this case study, I have introduced the feature of Daily Subscriptions on Swiggy’s Instamart.

Problem Statement

Instamart, a service provided by Swiggy for groceries shopping, lacks a feature of daily subscriptions wherein users cannot subscribe for food essentials they require daily or regularly.

The Solution

I integrated daily subscriptions for Instamart’s products for the problem stated above. A user can now easily subscribe to any product Instamart offers, such as milk, bread, eggs, fruits, vegetables, etc. It will also get the flexibility of choosing the days of the weeks for delivery and the duration of the subscription. The delivery will be made at 7:00 in the morning every selected day.
Payments will be made by adding money to the wallet using Swiggy Money.

User Research

Majority of people prefer home delivery of daily food essentials instead of going out to buy
On asking whether there are any general stores that deliver groceries in the morning, majority of them said no.
Majority of people are subscribers of some app for grocery delivery

Why did I come up with this Problem?

From User’s Perspective

a. I carried out a user research where I asked some family members and friends to fill up a form consisting of very basic questions aiming to figure out their preferences of buying food essentials like milk, vegetables and other regular use grocery items.
b. As per the responses, it was clear that majority of people prefer home delivery of regular use food essentials over going out. With the prevailing pandemic situation, this preference tends to become more solid in coming days.
c. Every household needs some item or another regularly for consumption.
d. Mostly all physical stores such as kirana stores open after 10:00 am and thus do not provide early morning delivery.
e. Why did I chose Swiggy? Instead of trying a new app, users will be more willing to try this feature in an app they already know, they already trust.

From Swiggy’s Perspective

a. Swiggy is used all across India with an undoubtedly solid customer base. It has the advantage of widening its scope of services as customers trust the brand name and thus, would be willing to try a new service without much push.
b. Currently, Zomato is the biggest competitor of Swiggy and does not have the feature of daily subscriptions, which is another advantage for Swiggy to launch a feature early and capture more market.
c. With this feature, Swiggy will also be giving tough competition to brands like BigBasket and Grofers, who already offer these services and have a large market of daily subscribers.

While creating this project, I had a constant attention to all the details of Swiggy’s current app UI. I tried my best to replicate the existing design as much as possible, and for new additions, I put all the efforts to blend them within the current design.

Future Scope

a. Time Slots: Adding an option of time slots with existing options wherein user will get the option to choose time for delivery.

b. The feature of daily subscriptions can be expanded to swiggy’s restaurants wherein users will be able to subscribe for meals (breakfast, lunch or dinner).
